1865 photo of Samuel Moody Keep (1833-1905)
Posted by: Paul Peterson (ID *****2235) Date: November 25, 2012 at 23:06:00

I purchased the subject studio portrait of a young man taken by Black & Case, Boston & Newport, RI. It is identified on the back of the mount in period ink handwriting:

"Samuel Moody Keep
Father of Ezra Keep"

A 3-cent Internal Revenue tax stamp affixed to the back of the mount is canceled with a date reading:

"JAN
24
1865"

This individual appears in Public Member Trees posted on ancestry.com. He is listed in the 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900 Census data for Jay, Franklin Co., ME. He is included in "Maine, Marriage Records, 1705-1922" and "Maine, Death Records, 1617-1922." He was employed as a farmer.

Samuel Moody Keep, born 5 Mar 1833 in Jay, Franklin Co., ME, died 21 May 1905 in Jay, Franklin Co., ME, was the son of a shoemaker, Francis Keep (1796-1875), and Catherine D. Brooks (1802-1888). On 28 Jan 1868, Samuel married Maria L. Rockwood (1845-1895). The couple had six children, including Ezra M. Keep (1876-1931). On 20 Oct 1903, in East Livermore (registration place Jay, Franklin Co.), Samuel married Ella M. Thompson (1853-).
