Bass & Elizabeth Lay. James Jefferson & Melinda had a least eight children
all born in Canton, Cherokee Co., Ga.- 1. Mahala E. Keeter b. 15 Jan 1862;
2. John J. Keeter , b. 31 Jan 1864; 3. Malinda Jane Keeter b.abt 16 Oct
1866; 4. Doctor F. (Doc) b. 08 April 1868; 5. Perry Christopher Keeter , b.
26 Jan 1870;
6. David Keeter b.abt 1871; 7. William Keeter b. 25 Jul 1878; 8. Mary
Keeter b.abt 1876. After the death of his first wife, James m. 05 June
1884 (2) to Nancy Rebecca Bass, the sisster of Melinda his first wife..
James & Nancy had four children all born at Canton, Cherokee Co., Ga.- 1.
Jams A. (Jim) b. 24 Jan. 1887; 2. Mattie R. Keeter b. 30 Aug 1888;
3. George W. Keeter b. 05 July 1891. 4. Thomas Aden Keeter b. 23 May 1893,
was a WWI Vet, buried Salem Cemetery . James Jefferson served in the Civil
War, ABC Cherokee Legion, Georgia State Guards. Henry Keeter & Elizabeth
Cooksey (Coxey). Farmed in the Canton area.

March 1869 s/o John Keeter & Susannah ______. Elbert Benson m. in 1834 in
Spartenburg, S.C. to Mahala Azarene Taylor (B. 29 May 1812) Both Elbert
Benson & Mahala A. Taylor Keeter are buried at Sardis Church Cemetery in
Canton, GA. They had 13 children. The first six were born in Spartenburg,
S.C. and the other seven were born in Canton, Cherokee Co., Ga. 1. John
Henry Keeter b. 1836; 2. James Jefferson Keeter b. 28 July 1838; 3. Andrew
N. (A.N> Keeter b. 1840; 4. Rufus A. Keeter, b. 1842; 5. Susan Katherine
