Perhaps I can assist you. I have Francis Keeter listed as "J Francis" in my files and married to Charity Ellen Callahan on 23 Dec 1875 (Rutherford County Marriage Index).
I now know the J means Joseph. Thank you. And I would love to have a copy/scan of that picture, front and back if the writing is on the back.
According to the census records in Rutherford County and other marriage records:
George Johnson Keeter (b. abt 1813 in Ruth. Co. NC) the son of John Keeter and Amy Johnson, married 1st to Dorcus Allen (b. abt 1810 in NC) on 24 Mar 1838 in Ruth. Co. NC. They had 4 children: your Mary Jane abt 1837 (oops), John abt 1840, George abt 1847, and your Francis abt 1851. I have not seen the "Jane" before, as the records always show only Mary. And I haven't seen a record of marriage to "Smith." Thanks again. Where did you find the marriage name/record? How did you get Jane as the middle name. I can't help it as I'm a stickler for references.
George married 2nd to Melinda Sorrels (b. abt 1823) on 10 Sep 1859 (again in Ruth.) and they had 4 children: Nancy M abt 1860, James H in May 1862, Jennie abt 1863, and Mary E. abt 1864.
I hope this helps. Feel free to inquire if you need more. I have an extensive database.
