This the last will and testament of Peter Keever. Note that James Keever the husband of Mary Corwin died in in 1847 the year befor this will was written.
Peter was the farther of James Keever and his mother was Christina Rogers.

I Peter Keever of the county of Louisa and State of Iowa do make and publish this as my last will and testament in manner n and from as follows to wit:
I give and devise to the heirs of my deceased son James Keever the sum of five dollars jointy.
I give and devise to the heirs of my deceased son Elias Keever the sum of five dollars jointy.
I give and devise to the heirs of my deceased daughter Betsy Wartham the like sum of five dollars jointy.
I give and devise to my daughter Sally Briggs the sum of five dollars.
I give and devise to my daughter Susannah Phillipps the sum of five dollars.
I give and devise to my daughter Abigal or Abbey Shaw the house, the stable and lot which said house andlot I purchased of Charles E. Fisk and is situated in Tooiesboro Louisa County Iowa which I value at two hundred dollars.
I give and devise to my daughter Margaret Keever the sum of two hundred and six dollars and if there is not a sufficient amount of personal property left after the payment of my debts and specified legacies she the said Margaret shall be paid by the sale of the land or she may have the said two hundred dollars in lands at her option said lands to be conveyed to her by decree of theprobate court of Louisa County and I authorize said cort to make such decree on just and equitable terms.
I give and devise to my son George Keever five dollars one iron kettle and three head of sheep.
I give and devise to my granddaughter Amanda Keever (daughter of Mrgaret Keever ) the sum of fifty dollars.
I devise and bequeath to my son Peter Keever Jr. the use and occupation of all my landed estate (except the house and lot devised to Abigail Shaw) and in case of marriage and having children his child and children are to have the said lands after the death of my son Peter. And in case of the death of my said son Peter without child or children it is my wish that my daughter Margaret Keever have the said lands in free simple.
And I do hereby appoint my friends William L. Toole and George L.Coe of the County of Louisa and State of Iowa guardians or agents to take chage of the said lands the use and occupation of which is bequeathed to my son Peter and that if the rents and profits of the same is not sufficient to comfortably support said son Peter and keep the said lands in repair together with all taxes assessed thereon and a reasonable compensation for the services of my said friends Toole and Coe in such case I wish to have said lands sold and the availsapplied to such purposes.
And in case of the death of my friends Toole amd Coe as aforesaid before the final settlement of my said estate I wish the court of probate for Louisa County to appoint a guardian or agent to have special charge of said lands as afore stated.

Codicil to Last Will and Testament of Peter Keever
I Peter Keever of the county of Louisa and State of Iowa do make the following codicil or amendment to my last will and testament which said will was maid and published an or about the 12'h day of September intant 1848
I will and devise to my daughter Margaret Keever (instead of a legacy of two hundred six dollars which legacy was to be paid in cash or land at the election of my said daughter Margaret as stated in said will of the 12th instant the following lands to wit:
The West half of the North West quarter of section 17
Also lot no. 2 in section 18
Also the North East quarter of the NW Quarter of section 17
Also the W1/2 of NE1/4 of section 7 all in township 73N and Range 2W
