My Great Grandfather, Samual A Kieffer b. 15 Feb 1863 married his first wife Georgie Townsley and had seven children. He then fathered a second family with 8 children and changed the name legally to KEFFER. My grandfather Archibald B KIEFFER (from Samuals first family) changed his name to Keiffer as did some of his brothers owing to an intra-family dispute. I also have been told that the early KIEFFER's immigration records listed female family members as KIEFFERIN or KIEFERIN. Hope this helps..
