Regimental History
PENNSYLVANIA
ONE HUNDRED and NINETY-FIRST INFANTRY
One Hundred and Ninety-first Infantry. - Col., James
Carle; Lieut.-Cols., George W. McCracken, Milton Weidler; Maj. Milton Weidler. The 191st, the 2nd veteran reserves, was organized in the field in May, 1864, from the veterans and recruits of the Pa. reserve corps. It was composed of men from the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 10th reserve regiments. Col. Carle had been a captain in the 6th, Lieut.-Col. McCracken a captain in the 10th, and Maj. Weidler a lieutenant in the 1st. Lieut.-Col. McCracken was never mustered on account of wounds received soon after the command was organized. Together with the 190th
it formed the 3d brigade, 3d division, 5th corps, and in the fighting at Cold Harbor lost 2 killed, 4 wounded and 1 missing.
Its subsequent history is identical with that of the 190th
regiment (q. v.). On March 21, 1865, the remaining members of the 157th Pa. infantry were transferred to this regiment. It was finally mustered out of service near Washington, June 28, 1865.
