I have been working on Willis Keithley and am about half convinced that Willis Keithley was Willis Keith until he married Nancy Lee. Oral history in our family from my great-grandfather was that a Keith had married a Lee and had joined the two names to make Keithley (maybe to blend in with other Keithleys in the area who were of German ancestry) My great-grandfather J.W.A. Keithley seemed certain that his Keithleys were of Scottish origin. Willis's mother and father are reported to have been Samuel and Elizabeth. There was a Samuel and Elizabeth Keith in an approximate area who would have been the right age to have been Willis's father. Does this seem too far-fetched?
