Dear Kimberly: YES! I am the cousin who worked at the Fairmont from 1946 to 1948. I actually began working as a House Officer (Special SF Police), but as an employee of the Swig Family, owners of the hotel. I was also singing with the Jack Ross combo in the Cirque Room and with the Ernie Hecksher Orchestra at the Mark Hopkins in 1949. My first job, however, was to check ID's at the Cirque Room of the Fairmont; and on occasion I did function in the Tonga Room.
I don't recall meeting your Mother during that era. But then, I met several other 1st and 2nd cousins during the period, some were the Gallitins (sic). Relatives from my Mother's sister Ethyl and her husband, Charlie Gallitin (sic).
I recall in the 1930s, Jack Kelling, was living with my Grandmother Kate, and my Aunt Nellie or Helen (AKA Babe).
After the war I recall Jack was living in Hollywood around the time I married in 1949. I assume that Jack was your father.
My wife of 52 years, Mary Anne, and I have lived in San Jose since 1971.Prior to that we, and our three children, spent a life time in the Air Force (1950-1970)traveling around the world. This is why we did not keep in touch with all our relatives prior to 1970.
Since my final retirement, from Ford Aerospace, in 1989, we both have been attempting to trace relatives from all sides of the family. Until your response I had heard nothing. I only have some census records listing the Kelling Family, circa 1900 and 1920.
My Mother and Father passed away in the 1960s. I have a brother Larry, who resides in San Luis Obispo with his wife Nancy. All of Mary Anne's family are gone. Our immediate family, sons, Greg and Chris live with their families in San Jose. Lisa, our daughter, also lives in San Jose.
Although we two, are well into being seniors, we are active seniors. We travel overseas at least twice a year, and drive all over visiting friends in Germany. Last year we circumnavigated South America for 56 days. we are quite mobile. Oh, and you may have seen us in a movie or TV series since 1994. I work mostly as a plain clothes detective on Nash Bridges (5 yrs.)although we do several movies a year. Out last was the Wedding Planner and Bedazzled. We also do TV commercials. In fact, I was in San Francisco yesterday auditioning for a Beringer Wine commerical, with shooting March 16.
Enough already. Do hope to hear from you, and we perhaps could get together and exchange some genealogy matters. I have two e-mail addresses: firstname.lastname@example.org & email@example.com.
Our best to -- my relatives,
