A few more new notes on Thomas Hyde Kellow (1694-1785). See today's other message about his parents if you haven't already.
A few more Maryland Probates mentioned him:
He's in the 1748 "Thomas Hawkins" Probate as posted in an earlier message. And then a great new piece:
"Shaw, Ralph, Charles Co., Maryland, dated 15 August 1757, probated 19 May 1768.
Whereas Joseph Pickrell of afsd. county has my bond for making over by good and sufficient deed in law 80 acres of land and has paid me a valuable consideration for said land I do therefore discharge the bond and give him 80 acres out of my tract called "The New Exchange" to include the plantation whereon he the said Pickrell now lives, to be laid out in the manner as I shewed said Jospeh Pickrell in
the presence of John Wedding, the deficiency to be made up out of my tract called "Morbille."
To son Benjamin Shaw remaining part of my tract called New Exchange and tract called Morebille.
That tract "Shaws Polly (or Folly?)," 55 acres, be sold.
To daughter Sarah Shaw, bed, cow and calf, and other.
To daughter Elizabeth Roby, ewe.
To daughter Lydia Roby, one ewe.
To son in law Thomas Hyde Kellow, sow and five shoates. Remaining part of personal estate to my son Benjamin Shaw and daughter Sarah Shaw.
Ex.: son Benjamin Shaw.
Wit: John Jones, John Luckett, George Maddox."
Thomas wife doesn't appear to be mentioned, unless she is Sarah, but the other daughter's married named are given, so Sarah was likely unmarried at this time. All indications are that Thomas' wife may have passed on by 1768 and Mr. Shaw may be passing on some property to his grandchildren through his son-in-law Thomas. We know that Thomas Kellow, "Jr." (my 4th great) was born in the late 1740's, so his mother was likely a daughter of Ralph Shaw. When Thomas Hyde Kellow did die in 1785, he was married to an Edice (last name unknown). She may have been a second wife. We may never know unless the Shaws can tell us something. I'll look into that on the Shaw Forum.
And one more later reference:
"William Dements, December 2, 1767.
Sureties: John Cannington, Thomas Hyde "Kellso."
Legatees: Benajah Dement, George Dement, Martha Somerset (granddaughter).
Residue to 2 sons & 2 daughters (equally): William, Walter, Dorcas, Lydia.
Executor: Mr. William Robey."
Notice William "Robey" - remember in the Shaw Probate, Ralph Shaw had two daughters (Lydia and Elizabeth) who each married a "Roby." William Robey and Thomas Hyde Kellow both probably married Shaw sisters. Maybe the Roby's can tell us more about the Shaws too.
