The following excerpt is taken from TENNESSEE TIDBITS,by Majorie Hood Fischer: Vol 1, Page 205; "JOHN KELLY died bef March term 1797 when Alex Kelly and Wm. Hamilton gave security as administrators Blo TN, CCM A/57 [Blount County is near Knoxville]

HUGH KELLY Bound 16 Oct 1799 to Henry Childress until age 21, He will be 18 on Jan 1 1800. Davidson, TN CCM C/212"
I believe this John Kelly is an older brother of Alexander b c1750 Armaugh, IRE. It is interesting that orphans James, Alexander and Hugh were bound to a man [Henry Childress] in another county [Davidson].
I believe there was a message on this forum regarding a land dispute in Augusta, VA, where his children are representing his estate, but identifying which John Kelly and which land has been speculative. Source information would be appreciated.
Does anyone know anything further about this family? Who were the parents of John and Alex? Where did John's kids go after their apprentiship was complete? James would be free around 1806. Meanwhile, John's brother Alexander b1750 and Alexander's son John b1779 with associated families, drifted down the Tennessee Valley [Greene, Knox, Blount, and Monroe - ending up in Marion County, TN, where I find my earliest known ancestor, James M. Kelly. Maybe John's orphan James b1785 followed his Uncle Alexander south. This would help explain an apparent close relationship between "Ancestor James M" and "John 1779", [they would be cousins] even though local Marion County historians claim they know of no direct family relationship.
