Ok, so I am helping out a friend here. We have a Walter S Kelsey (b 1894-5 d 1927) from Indiana that married a Nellie Hoffman (b 1899 d 1984) from Michigan. They had several children: Nora, Lulu, Norris, Louis, Marvin, & Robert. Apparently around 1930 Nellie abandoned her children in Manistee National Forest and took off. It appears that she later married a man with the last name of Beal and that she died in Pennsylvania in 1984 with the name of Nellie Beal.
Around 1928, Nellie apparently had a daughter (with Mr Beal?) named Norine. However, Norine is never mentioned anywhere as Nellie was keeping her a secret from the world (the story says it was to keep it from her husband, but we now know that he died in early 1927....we believe that maybe it was because she was a widow and not yet remarried). According to the story, Norine was left in a dresser drawer for the first 2 years of her life drugged up on cough syrup to keep people from knowing that she existed. In the April 1930 census, Nellie Kelsey is listed as head of household with the first 6 children (Norine is not mentioned). However, Norine was abandoned with the other 6 children when Nellie disappeared sometime after April in 1930 with Mr Beal (or it could have been someone before Mr Beal). Does anyone know anything about this family/story?
