L/CPL Willian Kemp, 2 Cameronians 1915
I'm also looking for any information on Lance Corporal William Kemp of the 2nd Battalion the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) who died on Monday 11th January 1915 and is commemorated on the Le Touret memorial in the Pas de Calais in France, and also on the village war memorial in Bowling, Dunbartonshire.
I've no idea if he was a direct relative or not, but he comes from the same area I do and all the Kemps I know there are related to me. I have looked at the 1881 census but he doesn't feature on it (which isn't a surprise).
His regimental number is 7639. Given his rank and the date of death I would expect that he was a regular or reservist soldier. The masses that volunteered in August 1914 wouldn't have got into action by January 1915 and the fact that he has no known grave suggests that he was killed in action. Also the 2nd Battalion in WWI Regiments was usually a regular battalion.
