As far back as I could trace (early 1700's)they were from Schenectady, Albany County, New York, USA.OnOct. 31, 1780, John Kemp(my 5th great grandfather) had enlisted in the King's Rangers. In Jan. 1783, he was stationed in St. Johns (St. Jeans) Quebec.
On Aug 12, 1781 Joseph, John's son, was shown as enlisted and also stationed at St. Johns. Two other sons, James, and John Jr. also enlisted in the King's Rangers. On October 6, 1784, all 4 were listed as being stationed in Cataraqui, Ontario, Canada.I believe that they all stayed in Canada after that.If you have any information, it would be greatly appreciated.
***note**** in several records, the surname is listed as Camp, not Kemp.
