John:
I noted your message today and there are several similarities between what you have heard about you GG Grandfather and some of the stories which I have heard about my GG Grandfather Kempf. We are sure that he came to PA in 1832 or 33 with his new wife Anna Maria from Germany.I have also heard that there were several brothers who came about the same time to PA.I know nothing about what happened to the brothers. But My GG Grandfather and his wife lived there in PA for a few years and then headed West. They spent some, perhaps a year or two near Cincinnati. They then moved on west to West central IL and remained there a year or so before coming to Southern Iowa. They arrived in Decatur County Iowa and are recorded there in the 1860 US Census. His name was Johann Matthaus Kempf. His sons and daughters changed the name to Kemp later.Johann shorted his name to John M. Kempf or Kemp.My GG Grandmother is buried in the old Catholic Cemetery SE of Leon, Iowa in Decatur County, his whereabouts are unknown.I hope to determine that fact.I look forward to hearing from you.Robert A.
