Hi Jill,
I actually think we crossed emails once before when my brother got an invitation by mistake to one of your family's picnics.

We're from South Eastern Ontario, around Belleville, and also heard the story about brothers coming over and 1 getting off in Montreal. I wonder if it's the same story. We also always got that some younger brothers had died at sea. Apparently my great grandfather was always very adamant about the spelling of the name.

I've traced our family back to the first one that came to this area, but haven't been able to (or had the time to) go much further than that. I think the ancestor who settled near Belleville was Michael.

It'd be interesting to try and find out if they are indeed the brothers who came over together.
