Jill,
I am a descendant of the Kerby's from St. Anicet, Quebec.
I was unable to find your ancestors in the 1871 census. I descend from John Kirby and Ellen Fitzgerald. They were both born in Ireland. In the 1871 census John is 73 and Ellen is 75 and they are living with their widowed son Patrick age 43 and his three boys Thomas 8, John 5, and James 3. By 1881 John, Ellen and Patrick have died and Patrick's boys are living with his brother Michael and his wife Mary Ann. The family has moved to Valleyfield. Michael is my great great grandfather. John and Ellen had at least three children- Patrick born in Ireland, Catharine born in Ireland (later married Patrick Finigan in Canada) and Michael born in Quebec. From this I can pinpoint their immigration year to about 1834 -35. There is also a Julia Kirby in the St. Anicet census who married a Thomas Leary - I don't know if she is a relation or not. I have also seen the Helen or Ellen Kerby that married Joseph Chretien and am not sure where she fits in. If you want to exchange info, please contact me. Patti
