Clydene,
This is QUITE a clue for us KIRBY/KERBY descendants. It certainly has peaked my interest again in my KIRBY line which I had put aside for a couple years. I do appreciate your efforts and sharing. May I copy and paste your message (credit to you for finding the patent) into other Genforum forums like Kirby?

Now, I need to get busy with follow-up research. You mention that 1) Ambrose and Richard split the land; 2) Ambrose sold his share to Richard; and then 3) Richard KIRBY Sr. sold his share to John KERBY. Could I please bother you for the dates of these 3 transactions if you have them.

There are unproven theories that my Richard KIRBY born 1770's (??) era who purchased SC land in 1790's was from various VA counties including Isle of Wight, Halifax and Pittsylvania so each "fact" is crucial.

It is most interesting that this Richard Kirby had a patent "conjoint" with Ambrose Williams--what a "find" it would be to learn the relationship these two had.

Is there any way your KIRLEY could be a KIRBY relation? I have found my direct ancestors under KIRBY, KERBY, CURBY, CURBEY, etc. but not KIRLEY to date.

Did your Ambrose Williams and MACY stay in VA--just in case I wander upon them, I will surely let you know.

Thank you again.
Pat Gilbert
