My Kerfoot line: Wm. to George to Elizabeth who married James Sowers to John W. Sowers to Martha Virginia Sowers who married her cousin George H. Sowers to Etta Double Sowers, my great-grandmother.

I have compiled a Tabulated Genealogy of descendants of Jacob Sowers, which has a lot of information dealing with Kerfoot family members, do to the intermarriage between the Sowers & Kerfoot.

My late great-uncle Hunter Branson McKay had exchanged letter with Eugene B. Jackson (buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA), who gave to him and Eugene B. Jackson published a work called A History of the Kerfoot Family--Especially in the Valley. In this work he maintains that the wife of Wm.Kerfoot was Mary Margaret Carter, daughter of Robert Wormeley Carter, grandson of Robert "King" Carter. Why my great-uncle did not question him at the time, given the age of the above Robert W. Carter (being the same generation as M.M. Carter) I do not know. I believe his idea that she was the member of this Carter family to be fault.

At this point in time I do not know if she was indeed a member of the Carter family. The story I heard that her name was written in a family bible, which of course has disappeared.

If she was a member of a Carter family, more likely from of group of Quaker Carter living in the Frederick Co. VA.
