Then I am looking at the wrong generation. If Mary R. (Kerfoot) Butts had a daughter on 3 Feb 1880. So the head of the household for 1880 Berkeley Co. WVA, you would want man 50 years plus, to be the father of said Mary R. Kerfoot.

Kerfoot (?) James 50 Shoemaker PA IR PA
" Catherine 47 wife PA PA PA
" Rosa I 18 Daughter WV PA PA
" Mary W. 14 Daughter WV PA PA
" Richard 10 son WV PA PA
" Anna 8 Daughter WV PA PA
" Arrih 6 son WV PA PA

Kerfoot John 49 Surveyor VA VA VA
" Rachael 51 wife VA Eng VA
" Mary B. Daughter MO VA VA
she listed as teacher
" Joseph G. 16 son VA VA VA
" Fannie Q. 15 Daughter WV VA VA

Kerfoot John P.Jr. 55 Farmer VA VA VA
" Mary S. 36 wife VA VA VA
" Wm. 12 son WV VA VA

Kerfoot John P. 75 Surveyor VA VA VA
" Hester L. 78 wife VA VA VA

My guess would be to view the 1870 Federal Census for Berkeley Co. WV. I do not believe my library here in VA has WV Federal Census.

Good Luck
