Eugene B. Jackson and the Kerfoot family

I've seen several mentions of the Rev. Eugene B. Jackson and his work on the Kerfoot family on this forum, and I'd like to clarify a few things.

Dr Jackson was my great-uncle and a Baptist preacher. He pastored in various places in Virginia but principally in Harrisonburg and Alexandria. He was the son of John Richard Jackson of Front Royal in Warren Co and Cornelia Maria Kerfoot of Upperville in Fauquier Co. She in turn was one of the daughters of Daniel Sowers Kerfoot and Maria Carr of Upperville. DSK and MC had 9 daughters and 1 son -- the next generation was composed of 36 first cousins!

Dr Jackson was fascinated with Jackson and Kerfoot genealogy and revisited those topics several times during his life. His Kerfoot researches were based partly on family tradition passed on through his mother; partly on locating will and deeds and references to the families in works like Kercheval's History of the Valley of Virginia; and partly on material in the hands of other Kerfoot cousins, like Mr Alfred Kerfoot of Berryville.

As far as I know, he never actually published any of his research. I have copies of three relevant essays: "Some Facts and Traditions Relative to the Kerfoot Family, Especially to That Branch Which Settled in the Valley of Virginia" (1901); "Official Records of the Early Kerfoot Family & Connections" (1915); and "A History of the Kerfoot Family - Especially in the Valley of Virginia. Facts and traditions revised and coordinated up to date February 1932. Eugene B. Jackson, Harrisonburg". He shared his findings with Robert Kearfott, author of _Kerfoot, etc, and Allied Families in America_.

All of which is not to say that his work (or the RK book) contains no errors. Both do. But Dr Jackson was always correcting and emending his work as his research progressed. I understand that his grand-daughter still has a steamer-trunk full of notes, copies of wills, etc! I think the main problem with his work is a degree of Romanticism about our Kerfoot ancestors (witness his desire that the wife of William Kerfoot have been the daughter of 'King Carter'!) -- so some care is needed in interpreting his remarks.

I would be happy to share the information I have about 'our' Kerfoots, the descendants of Daniel Sowers and Maria Kerfoot, whether from Dr Jackson's notes or other sources.
