According to research done by a great aunt and some others in the 1930's-1940's, I descend from a William Kerfoot b. 1724 Dublin Ireland m. Mary Margaret Carter 1745 in Frederick Co. Va. and died July 12, 1779.
My descent is from their daughter Mary "Polly" Kerfoot who married Arthur Watson Carter. I don't know whether ther is a kinship here or not.
The research also says that William Kerfoot was the son of Thomas Kerfoot b. in Scotland and that the name was originally "Kerr-Fusse" being a title conferred by a King of Scotland as he was the King's Equerry (he took care of the King's horses)
The research was done in 1933, in an effort to join the DAR and was done in Washington, D.C. I also have, in this book written by my great aunt Susan Margaret Miller Davis and revised by Berniece Swetnam Dry in 1985, a copy of William Kerfoot's will.
Would like to find information on Mary Margaret Carter's ancestors.
Information from the book also states that William Kerfoot came to America from Ireland and was of Scotch-Irish descent. He an one unnamed brother settled on the"upper waters of the Opequon River in Frederick Co. Va."
