Benjamin H. Kerr of the Florida Keys, b. 1818 in Wa, DC

I am looking for information about Benjamin H. Kerr, b. about 1818 in Washington, DC. However, he spent most of his life in Florida, in the Keys, as a lighthouse keeper, customs agent, etc. Married Henrietta Otis of Baden, Germany. It appears that he died by suicide around 1886.

He claimed to the census that his parents were both born in Massachusetts. I had looked at the possibility that he was a child of David C. Kerr, Jr. and Maria Perry of Maryland--the only Kerr family what would be the DC area that made sense, but there is no indication that he was their child.

He is my third great-grandfather. His daughter, Edna P. Kerr, married into the Noyes family of the New London, CT area. His granddaughter, Florence Kerr (Noyes) Allen of Groton, CT was my great-grandmother.

Any information on Benjamin H's ancestry would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
