Henry Bishop/Katherine Kessler, mrrd. 1-10-1859, Virginia
Hi,
I am looking for further information on a Henry Bishop who married a Katherine Kessler on 1-10-1859. I don't know what county they married in, but after Henry's death, Katherine married two more times, to Preston Akers, and then to S.J. Mitchell, both of those marriages were in Floyd County, Virginia.
I am particularly interested in finding out who Henry Bishop's parents were, and where he was born. Here's what I have, the first two generations of their descendants, I know I am missing one child from this list, as well.
Any help in figuring out the ancestry of Henry Bishop, as well as Katherine Kessler, would be most appreciated.
Here also is the obit of Katherine, written by her granddaughter Nannie Sowers.
Obituary Transcription of Katherine (Kessler) Bishop
Feb 21, 1922, the death angel visited the home of dear uncle Henry Bishop and claimed for it's victim his loving mother and our grandmother.
She was born Oct, 11, 1887 and died Feb 21, 1922.
She was married to the late Henry Bishop, January 10, 1859, and to this union were born six children, three of whom and her husband preceeded her to the grave several years ago.
She leaves to mourn her sad departure three children and large host of other relatives and friends; John W. Bishop, Brim, N.C.; Henry W. Bihsop, and Mrs. C.F. Sowers, of Willis.
She was married three times. The second time to Preston Akers and the last time married to S.J. Mitchell, Sept 12, 1900. I haven't the record of the second marriage so I gave the ones that I had.
The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Elder Q.D. Weeks, and Elder W. L. Jennings assisted in the service. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and had been for about twenty five years. She was laid to rest in the Greesy Creek cemetery to await the resurrection morning.
She had been in declining health and had been almost helpless for several years.
It was so hard to give grandmother up. God's will be done not ours. So he took dear grandmother home. Weep not, dear children, for dear grandmother she is not dead she is only asleep in Jesus arms. She is at rest where there is no more suffering, and pain.
She bore her suffering patiently and all was done for her that Drs, friends, and loving hands could do. There is a vacant place in the home that never can be filled.
I hear the low winds sweeping, Through every bush and tree, Where dear grandmother's sleeping, away from home and me.
Tears from my eyes are flowing, and Sorrow shades my brow, Cold in the grave, she's sleeping, I have no grandmother now. Our lives are oh so lonely, our hearts are troubled sore, Her dearest presence only could make us weep no more. She has gone from us to Heaven, Deep sorrow shades my brow, The sacred tie is broken, I have no grandmother now.
Written by her sad hearted granddaughter, Nannie M. Sowers.
