Dear Kestenholtz family members,

Well, we should have at least one new family member join the genforum per year, don't you think? Anyway, Charles Chestnutwood has been most kind over the years sharing his family information with me, and now I have a question for all of you Kesteholtz/Chestnutwoods out there!
My 5th great grandfather is Abraham Chestnutwood, born in 1745, the son of Jacob Kestenholtz and Anna Maria Glintz. He married Elizabeth Harris approx.1768, and died in Berks County, Pennsylvania before 1810. Their daughter, Rebecca Chestnutwood, married my 4th great grandfather, Benjamin Millard on January 8th, 1793,in the fifth district of Berks County--thus, my maiden name of "Millard."
Here is my question: I have Abraham Chestnutwood listed as a private in Captain Rhoad's Company, 3rd Battalion, with the Berks County Militia during the American Revolutionary War. He is listed as "Fifth Class," no doubt along with his neighbors Jonathan Boone and Jacob and Samuel Rhoads. The problem I have encountered is that I can find no other documentation of his military service, other than this reference, and an article which mentions one of his grandaughters whose grandfather (Abraham Chestnutwod) fought in the Revolutionary War. Any suggestions on how to further document this ancestor's heroic accomplishment? I'm open to suggestions!

Anna Millard Rogers

P.S. Abraham Chestnutwood is the 5th of 6 children, and the first to be born in the United States, hence, his last name is Chestnutwood rather than Kestenholtz, like his parents who, along with his older siblings, were born in Switzerland. His younger sister Elizabeth also has the last name of Chestnutwood.
