Wayne County, PA. Immigrant ancestors from Baden, but we don't know village. Yet. We think between Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe, which seemed to be consensus of people in my grandfather's generation (who were one generations removed from immigration.) Family was Catholic. Immigrant ancestor was Anna, son Valentine, and wife Caroline Kopp. Came in May 1849 (Caroline's siblings came earlier). Settled in Wayne County, PA, migrated out from there. Other surnames:
Scheiner, Gibbons, Everling, Funk, Anderson, Carlson, Downey, Heald, Schmitt to name only a few.
Family also spelled name Kaetner (with umlaut over the a), Kettner, Kitner, Kittner, Kattner. Spelling in petition for naturalization is Kittner, but variations continued until about the 1930s. Now "all" but one of uses the same spelling. I put "all" in quotes, because I'm finding more and more of us every week. Are you one of us?
