Christopher Kettering vs. Christopher Kettering

There is a great deal of confusion regarding the two men named Christopher Kettering who were born in Montgomery Co, VA in 1786 and 1787. This is my attempt to correct some of the misinformation. A portion of my data is taken from the 1978 edition of Henry Hardy Catron's book on the Kettenring family. The information regarding the Christopher who lived and died in VA is my own research, even to a daughter whose relationship to the family is confirmed by court records but not listed in Henry's book!

Christopher Kettering, son of Johann Jacob Kettenring and Elizabeth Gose, was born in 1786 in Montgomery Co, VA and according to "the book" married Euphemia Minipraa Jones in Grayson Co, VA in 1807. They moved on to White Co, TN then on to Missouri where he died in 1819.

My gr-gr grandfather, Christopher Kettering/Katron/Catron, was born in January, 1787 in Montgomery Co, VA, the son of Johann Philip Kettenring/Kettering/Ketring and Elizabeth Sprecher/Spraker. He married Mary O'Neal of Tipperary, Ireland, on 29 Oct 1812 in Washington Co, VA and they had 9 known/named children, all of whom were born in Washington Co, VA. Christopher died in Sept 1854 in Washington Co, VA (not in Missouri or NC as you will see in other places on the internet) and Mary died in Washington Co, VA circa 1863.

One son of Christopher and Mary, John Randolph Catron/Cattron/Catteron, married a Dula lady of NC (Caldwell County, I think --- this is from memory) and they later moved to Missouri (Clay Co, I think), where he died. But John's father, Christopher, stayed in Washington Co, VA.

I realize it's difficult to sort through the various spellings of the surname to determine which individual was married to whom.........perhaps this bit of information will be of help to some people.
