You have provided helpful information. One of the things I want to avoid.. and I opened the door to it myself is to second guess the documentation.
1.) Your suggestion that there were a lot of Mary Pomfetts and John Wallers prompted my question about a marriage between other Mary Pomfrets and John Wallers in that location.Considering that there is one... we can believe that it is a possibility that Dr. John Waller married Mary Pomfrett. The records of their children are in the chancery files.
2.) I cannot prove that Mary Waller who came to VA via Annapolis in 1723 was the same Mary Waller wife of Dr. John Waller... if it was the same wife some years later. We don't know.Nor can we disprove that it was not Mary Pomfret Waller.
3.) Edward Herndon lived next door to Mrs. Mary Wallerwhen he deeded the property to his son, Edward, Jr.Assumptions have been made in the Herndon family that this Mary Waller is the mother of their ancestor. From my reading of that deed, this property passed down from Mrs. Mary Waller (purchased by Col. John Waller to Ann Waller Lewis.
I discovered quite by accident that one of my known ancestors was the daughter of a certain Virginia family after all --- despite the fact whe was not a legatee. Her husband had been given a great deal of property including slaves which identified his as "my son-in-law."
Instead of trying to prove that Mary E. WAller was a daughter of Col. John Waller, I have written down the facts as I know them and will include your doubts (without mentioning a name).I have my own doubts that Mary E. Waller at age 34 married and had a passel of children... unless she was widowed in England and was a Mary nee Waller. Those are all real possibilities - but the book is not going to claim it as fact.
I have a wealth of information on my ancestor,Edward herndon.
Thanks for your assistance,cf
