Jackson A Kidd, Horace Kidd

Hi,I'm trying to solve a family mystery, and I have run into many dead ends. My grandfather was Horace Lumon Kidd. He appears in the 1900 census with Jackson and is listed as "son." But he wasn't the son of Mary L. The census shows that his father was born in Texas, but his mother was born in Missouri. The family legend has been that his mother was "Nettie Reeves." In my research, I find a Nettie Reeves, married to E. D. Reeves, living in the same neighborhood as JR, Jack, and other Kidds and Reeves in 1880. My grandfather was born in 1883, before Jack/Mary L marry.

I can't find any record of a marriage between Jack and Nettie Reeves. I'm considering a few possibilities: That Horace was adopted, and was not a Kidd at all. Second, that he is an orphaned relative, or was sent to live with Jack and family. Or that he is the offspring of Jackson and widowed Nettie Reeves (whose husband was listed as sick in the 1880 census). My mother, now long gone, grew up in Hobart, Ok and had a friend named Reeves, who she called "cousin."

Can you shed any light on this?

Many thanks,

Doyle P. Dean (Dugan)
