Michael Kielty was born 14 May 1868 near Boyle and Ballinifad, County Roscommon, Ire. to James Kielty and Catherine McDermott. Another son James was born 06 April 1870. The name Kielty has various spellings i.e. Keelty, Keilty, Kealty and the American version, Kelty. All variations should be kept in mind, especially when using primary Irish sources. Though the name appears in other areas of Ireland, it is particularly dense in the Parishes of Drumrat(aka Keash), Aughanaugh and Tumoor in County Sligo and Boyle Parish in Roscommon.
