Kilborn family in Eastern-Central IL

I have virtually no information on the Kilborn side of my family. Here's what I do know:
My grandfather was Donald Lee Kilborne b. Apr. 12, 1928 in Belleville, IL (southern IL) d. Aug 10, 1997
My great-grandfather was Elmer Lee Kilborn b. June 6, 1897, most likely near Charleston, IL. He married Sarah Louetna Hill on May 26, 1923. He died in Sept. 1965.
The true family spelling is without the "E". When my grandfather joined the Navy in the late 1940's, they noticed that there was an "E" on his birth certificate so rather than going through the hassle of having it legally changed, he adopted the"E". That's about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
