The July 2001 large print issue of Reader's Digest has in it on page 146 to 151 an article titled "Thank You, Mr. Chips" regarding the Nobel Prize (physics)winner for his invention of the microchip.
The September issue(page 14)had a followup letter from a New Jersey reader who pointed out that Mr. Kilby, having been with Texas Instruments for too short a time to take part in TI's annual company wide vacation period,... [being]... "Left alone to experiment, unencumbered by distractions, interruptions and scrutiny from peers and managers...came up with the device that changed the world."
