Kilby Johnson, AL

Is it possible that my ancestor, Kilby Johnson, might be related to the Kilby family? He was born c. 1809, NC and was in AL as early as 1840. He married Lucy Peak in 1847, Wilcox County, AL. On the 1880 Wilcox Co., AL census he was listed as 71 yrs old, born in NC, and both parents born in VA. I have found no record for him after that date.

I have never been able to locate his parents/siblings. Since Kilby is such an unusual first name, I thought it might be possible that his father, ---Johnson, might have married a woman by the last name of Kilby, and they gave their son her maiden name as his first name.

I know I'm grasping at straws, but Kilby Johnson has been a mystery man in my family for a long time. Anyone else searching for a Kilby Johnson?
Thanks for any help.
