The Kilby family of York has descendants in Australia and I am one. Thomas Kilby was lord mayor of York in 1784. His son John Kilby was lord mayor in 1804. John Kilby and his wife Ann Shaw had children one of which was my great g.g.g grandfather The Reverend Thomas Kilby. He married Maryann Hall of Scarborough. Eight children were born to them, one being Thomas Fryer Kilby who was my g.g.g grandfather. (he came to Australia) and his sister Maryann Kilby who married Henry Emmanuel Scott. Maryann was the principal of East Hayes School which incidentally is still there. I have pictures of it taken in 2010. Maryann and Henry Scott had ten children, among them a daughter, Alice Flora who married Sanford James Kilby. He is also descended from the lord mayors, they were the parents of Arthur Forbes Gordon Kilby. A younger brother of Maryann called Ralph went to Canada.I have been researcing this family for a long time and have lots of information. You can get a picture of the memorial by googling it. It is a pink/grey alabaster memorial.Happy to share if you wish to know more about the Kilbys.
