Dear Martin,
Thank you for responding. My Thomas Kilcullen is not the same as the one who married Margaret Sexton .In 1992 my Uncle visited the old farm in Ireland and retrieve the following information about my Thomas from the Kilglass Parish House:
Birth Certificate:
Thomas Kilcullen born May 1st 1863; Baptized May 3rd 1863;
Diocese of Killala;Parish of Kilglass; County Sligo
Parent: Patrick and Bridget Kilcullen
Family Chart:
Husband: Patrick Kilcullen
Wife: Bridget Kilcullen
Address Carrow Hubbock (Ceathar Habach)
Children:
Thomas Born May 1, 1863; Baptized May 3, 1863
Matthew ?; Baptized Nov 7, 1864
Patrick ?; Baptized Nov 25 1866
Maria (Mary) Born Feb, 26, 1869; Baptized Feb, 27, 1869
Charles Born Apr 2, 1871; Baptized Apr 8, 1871
Catherine Born Apr 2, 1872; Baptized Apr 3, 1871
John Born Nov 20, 1883; Baptized Nov 22, 1883
Sarah Born 1881; Baptized 1881
I have no other information about Patrick and Bridget Kilcullen. However, the Godparents of Thomas are noted as Thomas and Barbara Kilcullen.Godparents are not noted for his siblings.
According to my father, Thomas emigrated to the US in the early 1880’s and eventually moved to Pittsburgh PA where he met his wife, Mary Mallon. He had been educated to be a Mathematics teacher in Ireland but could not find any work in Ireland. In Pittsburgh he first found work in the steel mills and later became a mail carrier.
I have a copy of the citizenship certificate for Thomas. He became a US citizen on July 10, 1888.
According to his marriage certificate, Thomas Kilcullen married Mary Mallon on May 1, 1887 in Pittsburgh. His brother Matthew was in attendance, so I can only assume that Matthew also emigrated to the US.Thomas and Mary settled in Pittsburgh where my Grandmother, Ann Elizabeth Kilcullen was born.
According to a newspaper clipping of Thomas and Mary’s 50th wedding anniversary, Matthew Kilcullen lived in Donora PA in 1937.The clipping also mentions a cousin, Rev. Edward Hannon of Cleveland Ohio.
Mary Mallon Kilcullen died on July 2, 1943 in Pittsburgh.Thomas Kilcullen died on Dec 23 in the same year, also in Pittsburgh.
If any of this information is noted in your genecology then your wife and I may be very distant cousins. Please let me know.If so, then I would like any more information that you have and I can give you lots of information about the decedents of Thomas and Mary. I should be seeing my Uncle later this year and he may be able to provide more information about Patrick and Bridget.
Thanks again
Ann Mangat
