Gilbert Kilgour was my maternal grandfather. He married Jean (More) Kilgour, and they had one child, my mother Joan Kilgour, in Hartford,CT, in 1930. When Joan was a teenager, Gilbert and Jean divorced. Gilbert moved to Chicago and married Evelynne, 18 years his junior. Joan married William Ewing, they had 2 children (Lynn, my sister, and Wendy... me). Jean lived with our family in Newington, CT when we were very young..until she died in her early sixties. We alternated annual visits between Chicago and Newington for many years while we were children. Evelynne and Gilbert continued to live in Chicago until Evelynne's death in 1977 at the age of 61. Grandpa was 79 at this point, and moved back to Newington to an apartment about a mile from our house. He was very independent, still drove, and was sharp as a tack. He died of a stroke in 1981 at the age of 83.
