I believe I found Mary Ann in 1851/1861 before her marriage and later with her husband.

Alexander, son age 16, mason, born New Deer, Aberdeenshire

Mary Ann, daughter, age 74, domestic servant, born Old Deer, Aberdeenshire (this is obviously an error in their transcription as Mary Ann would have been 14 not 74)

John son age 10, scholar, born King Edward, Aberdeenshire

Jane, daughter, age 7, scholar, born King Edward, Aberdeenshire

Helen, daughter, age 5, scholar, born King Edward, Aberdeenshire

Mary Bella, daughter, age 22, general domestic born Old Meldrum

** they obviously made a mistake in

Jannie, daughter, age 6, scholar born Culsamond

So from this, even though Mary Ann shows her birthplace as King Edward, it is more likely it was New Deer as in earlier census. She lived in King Edward as a child so perhaps she always thought of that as her birthplace??

This was the only Mary Ann or Mary Mowatt I could find of right age and place.

I did not find any connection to the Kilgour family and cannot see where you found Kilgour in any of their children's names??

Maybe one of the wives was a Kilgour - Jane Middleton? or Mary Mowatt?
