Dear Caroline L.
Thank you so much for your info re my uncles.Sorry for the delay in answering but I was in hospital with food poisoning! I didn't know where Robert was buried until now but knew it was somewhere in what is now Irak. I recently visited the war memorial in Scotland where he is remembered so it brings completion--I doubt I'll ever be able to visit Basra but you never know what future generations might do and now I can record his burial place. Fergie,s dates etc were interesting to have.I think he must have been trying to visit his brother for Christmas on 19/12/35.How sad to be turned back at the border. He spent the rest of his life in Canada, got married and had a family. The real mystery is George.I have the 1901 census thanks. Is there any way you can suggest that I can find his entry date to Canada? It is possible that he entred via US I suppose but he wouldn't have had any relatives there. His wife Ethel Barker might have I suppose but don't know if women were allowed in to us or Canada in that way.
Best wishes and thanks again for your help--Moira
