Charlotte and Shirley,
According to the information that I have, Sylvester CHUNN, 1758-1841, was the son of Joseph CHUNN; b. 2/1735, d. 1758 in Charles Co., MD, and Catherine NEILSON; b. unk., d. 1758 in Charles Co., MD.
Sylvester was only 3 weeks old when both his parents were killed. Sylvester was raised by his grandparents, probably his maternal grandparents, as his paternal grandfather had died before Sylvesters parents. Of course, it is possible that his paternal grandmother remarried and raised him ... I don't know about that.
Sylvester's paternal grandparents were Benjamin CHUNN; b. abt. 1695 in MD, d. bef. Dec 10, 1753 and Rebecca [unk.]. Benjamin's parents were John CHUNN, Sr. and Martha TUBB. John's parents were John CHUNN and Dorothy [unk.].
Sylvester served in the American Revolution for three years, enlisted at 17 years of age on February 1, 1777, and served in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. He appears on the 1790 NC census with himself as head of household, 2 males under the age of 16, 5 females and 1 slave.
I have in my possession a copy of a book written by Wilma Vaughan CHUNN of TN which lists ten generations of the CHUNN families dating back to the 1600's and information of the CHUN Castle in England.
I have Henry CHUNN listed as the only child/son of Sylvester CHUNN and Obedina [maybe Obedience?]UNK. I also have information that Sylvester was married previously to Hannah GARRETT, daughter of Thomas GARRETT and Margaret FOOTE, and having a total of six children ... 2 males, 4 females, names not listed.
Please let me know how this information compares to any information that you might have on our Nandy CHUNN KILLEBREW's family, or how you think this information fits into her ancestry.
