I agree there must be a connection between these families as the names are too close. On the Kimbrell side of the family I have only gone back as far as Basil.
Basil and Charity could have had a son born in 1828 as they had children born in 1825, 1827 and 1829.

One of thier sons - William Kimbrell and wife Mathilda Providence (Norman)had a son named William Riley Kimbrell (he married 1-Mary Foley; 2-Mary Wilmouth, and 3- Oklahoma Wilcox.)

Another son was named Basil, so this definitely sounds as if these are family names. IT will be interesting to find out how they fit.
