I have posted before but with the passage of time, and newer info, sometimes a re-posting finds its way to someone with better information and documentation.
I have always known that I descend from Sarah Gay (b. 1710, Ulster IR I think) who married William Campbell (b. 1700 Donegal/IR, I think). They all came to the Calfpasture area of VA before 1740 ("Chronicles of the Scots-Irish...").
I have always thought that Sarah Gay's parents were Robert Gay and Margaret Lockridge, from this same settlement in Calfpasture/Augusta/VA.
Now this is all family oral history (and most of you know what that means). Everything I am seeing on the net now is showing that Robert Gay was born about 1729 and wife Margaret Lockridge was born abt 1727. Doing the math that means that their suggested daughter Sarah is 17 years OLDER than her parents.
Then I looked at the possibility of Sarah Gay being Robert Gay's sibling rather than her father and both of them then then the children of William Gay, Jr. and wife Mary Walkup/Wouchope...this too has problems with dates. Sarah Gay, if their daughter, would have been born 20 years before most of her siblings...that doesn't seem probable either.
Then when you look at William Gay Jr.'s proposed parents William Gay, Sr. and Elizabeth Adams, William Gay Jr. is 40 years older than their suggested youngest child..now that can't be right either!?
the good news is that once I get Sarah Gay and William Campbell's daughter Margaret Campbell married to Thomas Gillham Sr. (also in Calfpasture) then the genealogy on my line coming down from their son John Gillham, Sr. is correct, but who John Gillham Sr's Gay, Kincaid, Campbell, Walkup, Lockridge grandparents were, is to me, unknown.
Anyone know any more on this jumbled line than I do??? I am just pure stuck!
Thanks to all,
