William de Kyncade was born circa 1230 in Scotland.1 He married Willelma Douglas, daughter of William Douglas and Constance Batail, circa 1245.1 William died before 1280.2,3
William lived during the time of Alexander II. About this time in Scotland and England, adults were compelled to assume family surnames. William, who had acquired the Kyncade land by inheritance and marriage, took the name Kyncade. Historians generally consider him the authenic founder of the name.2,4
