Kindig is not my family, but I have a copy of an interesting article clipped from a Daviess Co. MO newspaper from sometime in the 1910s relating to the westward migration of a Kindig family from Augusta Co. VA to Tazewell Co. IL and then to Daviess Co. MO.
Benjamin Kindig was born perhaps very early in the 1800s; his son Samuel was apparently born around 1834. Benjamin's family lived in Augusta Co. VA at some point early in the 19th century, next to a Hinkle or Henkel family. Elizabeth Hinkle of that family, born 1804, married a Mr. Fauber and moved to Tazewell Co. IL in the early 1830s. "A few years later" (in the article's context, this could be into the 1840s), Benjamin Kindig also moved to Tazewell Co. IL and coincidentally bought land next to Elizabeth Hinkle's farm (she might now have been married to Daniel Giseburt). In 1856, Daniel Giseburt and Elizabeth Hinkle moved to Daviess Co. MO, and in 1858 the Kindig family followed, again buying an adjoining farm.
The article says that Samuel Kindig, son of Benjamin, and Ambrose Giseburt, son of Daniel and Elizabeth, vouched for this story and were still living as neighbors more than 50 years since their families had arrived in Daviess Co. At the time, Samuel was "past 77" and Ambrose was "past 65". As Ambrose was born in 1846, the article would not have been printed earlier than 1911, and Samuel probably was born about 1834.
I would be happy to provide a copy of this article to any Kindig family members -- please send addresses privately. Also, if any Kindig descendants happen to know the identity of Elizabeth Hinkle's parents through any records that place the Kindigs near the Hinkles in Augusta Co., or otherwise know more exactly where Benjamin Kindig's family lived, I would very much appreciate any information.
