Dear are very fortunate to have
the writings from your grandfather to guide
you. Our Kinghorn family lived in the Fogo
area about this time period. Prior to that, they have a long history in Eccles.
Cairns Mill is slightly N.E. of the tiny
village of Fogo. There are a few Kinghorns
buried in the churchyard. Isobel Thompson
(spouse to George Kinghorn) is buried near
the walkway to the front entrance of the kirk (or church). They would be 5th great-
grandparents. Isobel lived at the Fogo Mill
in her later years...this mill is no longer
there, but we did find the approximate loca-
tion on our last trip to Scotland in March
2000. Found a Marjory Kinghorn, christened
in 1790, Fogo...father John. Also, a Mary
Kinghorn, christened 1795 @ Whitsome and Hilton..father Thomas. This town is not too
far from Fogo. The Scots tended to follow a
name rule of naming the oldest son and daughter after the father's parents...the
second son and daughter after the mother's
parents. Does this help you at all? Would like to hear about any further info you have on your family. Good luck. L.M.
