One more thing. About the Cranfield Wheelers.
Yes, there was an elder THomas Wheeler (1563-1634). He was married twice. By the first wife (name unknown), he had a few children, including Thomas "Sr." b abt 1591, and he who died in Fairfield.
By the second wife (Rebecca, some say Sayres-- although where they're finding this surname, I do not know) he had a slew of additional children, almost all of which ran off to the colonies after their father's death. Like, within a year!
One of the last children was another Thomas Wheeler, yes, half brother of Thomas "Sr." That he was "older" than Thomas Sr's son Thomas is quite funny. He was older by about two years!
And yes, I also now believe that this younger half-brother was he who became Capt. Thomas Wheeler of King Philip's War, he who married Ruth Wood.
Sad story that. Have you read it? Both Capt. Thomas Wheeler and his son (what??? ANOTHER THOMAS??? YES!) were caught in a fight/siege in what is now Brookfield (do I have that right? I"m fading!) First the son is wounded, then the father gets wounded, the wounded son goes back for the wounded father, gets re-wounded, and while they both survive the immediate broo-hah, they both died within two months of each other later in the year. I think there was another son of that family who also died the same season.
