OK DAwn,
Well, the arrival of William 111 in England started the now famous Williamite Wars in Ireland from 1689-93. Dean George Story was Chaplain to William's Army at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and following the Williamite Wars he wrote an account of these Wars including naming many of the Officers on both sides. The irony of this War was that King James was a Stuart and Pretender to the Throne of England, and being Catholic, this presented a problem so William was invited from Holland to succeed to the Throne. The Williamites fought the Jacobites (James' followers) culminating at the Boyne in 1690 vwith James' defeat and flight to France. Interestingly, William was supported by the Pope who was unhappy with the alliance between James and Louis XIV of France who had usurped the authority of Rome in France.
Read Dean George Story's Book - An Impartial Account of the Wars in Ireland".....currently held by many major Libraries but especially in Belfast's Linenhall Library which also holds the sequel "A Continuation to the Impartial History of the Wars in Ireland"
