The Irish in King William's War

I have an ancestor, by the name of Finley, who was in Dublin, Ireland (he was born in Fifeshire, Scotland) at the time of what we call "King William's War." My genealogy says he fought in 1690. What side were the Irish on? Or did it just depend?

Any clues would be appreciated.
