James Edward Kinlaw b. 10/3/47 - Roberson Co
I was notified within the last couple years by my father, who is in poor health, that he wanted to tell me the truth of what he knows of my background. He adopted me shortly after he married my mother when I was 2-1/2 years old.Her maiden name was Margaret Ann McCarter. Her date-of-birth was 1/19/1930 and was from Kinston, NC or Lumberton, NC. My mother was first married to June May Kinlaw from the Roberson County area, perhaps Rowland or Lumberton. I was born 10/3/1947 but not sure where in NC. My birth certificate says Forsyth County but am told that part was altered. They divorced then he was killed in an auto accident. She then married Fritz Douglas Stelljes from Wilmington, NC who adopted me. My mother died in 1979. He said my mother did not want me to know about my past but he recently said he did not want to go to his grave with a lie, though he respected my mother's wishes all these years. He cannot locate the adoption papers. I went to Raleigh to see if I could obtain more info but the adoption papers are sealed and could not provide me with any
additional info. If anyone in the Kinlaw family could help I would appreciate it, especially for my paternal medical history. My wife Sandy and I currently live in Maryland.
