My Kinnear immigrant ancestor was Michael Kinnear, originally of Fife Co. Scotland, b. 1762, but he married a Margaret McDill in Belfast and immigrated with his 2 year old son James b. 1783. Margaret died on the voyage. Michael and his son continued to Rockbridge Co. Va where he joined his two brothers who had earlier immigrated.

Michael married Elizabeth Campbell in Rockbridge Co. and their eight children were born there. Much of the family later migrated to Jefferson County, IN. where Michael died in 1847.

Michael and your James may have been brothers considering the "coincidences" of 1) the Belfast to Rockbridge migration, 2) we believe two brothers preceeded Michael, 3) consistent timing and 4) Michael named his first son, James. Certainly worth pursuing or filing.

Jerry Johnson
