A biography of Lawrence I. Kinsella, rancher on the Little Box Elder Creek, 25 miles south of Havre, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 713.

Lawrence was born, Jul 1870, the eleventh of thirteen children of Lawrence and Ellen (Burke) Kinsella, born respectively in Kings County and Cork County, Ireland. Lawrence died at age 76, in 1909; Ellen died at age 71, in 1906. The father, Lawrence, immigrated to Quebec, then made his permanent home in Vermont where for many years he was employed in the slate mills at Castleton. He and Ellen Burke were married at Castleton. They had seven sons and six daughters.

Lawrence I. Kinsella, at age 15, graduated from Fairhaven High School, then took a course at St. Joseph's College at Burlington, VT, and graduated in 1899. He attended the Grand Seminary at Montreal, Canada, but after one year returned to Burlington and took a three-year medical course at the Vermont State University. He became involved in professional baseball, becoming a member of the Troy Club of the New York State League for two years, then went with the Toronto Club of the Eastern League, where he remained until 1898. He went to Meridian with the Connecticut State League until 1900 when he located to Great Falls, MT, as business manager of the Great Falls Club of the Montana State League. After two months, he began working for the Great Northern Railroad as checker on a gang of steel workman. He had that job until November when he joined his brother, John, on the ranch on Little Box Elder Creek.

On 27 Jan 1906, Lawrence married Anna M. Pflepsen, born at Cold Springs, MN. Kinsella children: Lawrence P. (died at 3 months); Nicholas B., Rose Mary, Helen P., Margaret E., Anna C., Gertrude S., Francis J.
