Hi, Claude:

Just following up to see if you ever found anything on Willis Kinslow? I have Willis as born Feb 20, 1849 in Kentucky (probably Barren County)and his parents are John Pickett Kinslow and Martha Unk. Willis moved to Sumner County, Westmoreland, Tennessee sometime after 1900 as he is listed on the Edmonson County, Kentucky Census in 1880 and 1900. He then shows up on the 1920 Sumner county Census living with his son Willie. After his son, Jalma supposedly killed himself (questionable, to say the least!)in 1920, Willis is still alive and well in Westmoreland, TN. This is confirmed by an article in the newspaper describing Jalma's death. After traveling up to Tennessee a couple of years ago, I found Willis buried at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Westmoreland, Sumner County, Tennessee. The date of death on the headstone reads January 2, 1923. He is buried next to his wife, Mary Samantha Simmons b. June 17, 1849 in Barren County, Kentucky d.January 21, 1929 Sumner County, Tennessee. His wife's nickname is inscribed on the stone as "Mollie" and there is no death date on the headstone at all for Mollie. They were married May 30, 1872 presumably in Edmonson County, Kentucky.

On the 1880 census, it shows John Pickett Kinslow and his wife Mary Unk as Willis's mother and father. The census states that John was born 1826 in Kentucky and Mary was born in Kentucky, but I do not have a birth year for her.

Email me at redege@aol.com and I can give you a little more information on John's parents as well.

Have great day!

Rebecca DeGennaro
